this is just a thought, i personally enjoy the zombie genre if it is done right

it could just be nice, romero-style zombies, with no known explanation for why the outbreak occurred. no need to make a complicated backstory, just establish a proper environment for some interesting post-apoc RP. it could take place like 10 years or something after the outbreak, so some interesting dynamics could be taking place involving trade, factions, communities and maybe city-states. there could be event factions like bandit gangs and evil government remnants, but players would be normal survivors by default.

1. get a reasonably large map like necro_evocity

2. establish a place as a main hub/settlement. stuff like shops/bars could be set up, and town council-esque leadership positions could be put in place, as well as laws (hub would depend on player participation, but be overseen by admins)

3. map is still big enough for people to claim other areas and form groups of their own. producers would have plenty of space to make events on the main map.

4. could have an event server for when hub survivors go on cool scouting/scavenging/mission-based expeditions outside of the map (similar format to CMRP missions)

5. have a good crafting system, and a combination of item spawns/producer-placed loot

6. fun is presumably had

issue with this stuff is keeping the players invested / interested. Without a story or any such thing like Factions interacting with eachother, shit gets REAL stale REAL fast

all i can say is

no BMD should exist. you also drop random items you have in your inv on death, so death has more loss than a gun you found on the ground

i mean, i've written lore for zombie genre stuff before. i can include some of my ideas if you want. i'm not suggesting having no lore, but some details, like the origins of the outbreak, are generally irrelevant. most explanations end up being dumb or clique, so it's best not to touch on it lol.

in terms of player-level stories, the main settlement/hub could be the informal central point for most RP. it would be the place that gives out expeditions/missions to keep people involved, and would be a good place for passiveRP. since the hub would have a market and player-owned enterprises, business/political play and local drama could take place there too.

again, people wouldn't be forced to visit the hub if they wanted to play a loner/baddie of some kind. however, the hub would always be a place to reliably find RP, and provide some sense of structure.

SCG Member: GOD GUYS LISTENS TO THIS COOL NEW IDEA FOR ANOTHER SERVER!!! IT SOUNDS SO COOL!
SCG: *Licks it up like it's fucking coke*
...
SCG: *Puts up server, it dies, and hurts the population overall* *Rinses and repeats in a few months*

You could literally recommend ShitRP and SCG would think it is a good idea. Any server that hasn't been CMRP or CRP has usually been a fuck up and hurts more than helps, but SCG in its undying naivety thinks its a good idea and we do it all over again. My opinion, whether you guys like it or not, is the truth.

calm down

i mentioned that we should only do this if CRP dies. if CRP is dead, then a zombie RP server is better than no server.

worst case scenario, it doesn't work out. still, it would have likely drawn some zombie RPers to the community, and those new people might stick around for the next iteration of SCG.

I know but a lot of the time it is these little harmless ideas that spark it into existence.

that would only occur if people are already dissatisfied or bored with the current iteration of SCG. if that's the case, it was bound to die anyway.
There have been plenty of times where we put up a third server for the hell of it, that has been most of not all of the non-HL2 servers. It is because people think it sounds fun, on paper it looks so cool, and then the fantasy dies a week after the server is made.
